Doubtful Sound Sea Kayaking

Two full days of guided  sea kayaking in Doubtful Sound - Experience the pristine wilderness of the unspoilt sound of silence, more remote than Milford Sound and home to fur seals, bottlenose dolphins, crested penguins plus overnight camping in the ancient podocarp forest with its native birds and lush tree ferns.

Day 1: We paddle down Deep Cove saying hi to any New Zealand fur seals on the way, and to Rolla Island, nesting place for Fiordland crested penguins. Into Hall Arm with lunch on a small beach, then to Mt Danae at the head of the Arm in the afternoon. We camp in a small clearing in the ancient podocarp forest, some evenings exploring the valley, listening for kiwi, morepork, weka. Time to experience the remoteness, the being alone in this raw wilderness.
Day 2: Paddling out of Hall Arm we head down Malaspina Reach for lunch, if possible circling Elizabeth Island exploring Olphert Cove. Back to Deep Cove with a tail wind - test your kayaking skills or put the sails up for a cruisy trip home. Return to Te Anau by 7.00pm to civilisation (?).

Conditions: Minimum age 16, No paddling experience necessary.
Duration: 2 full days trip with Adventure Junkies

IMPORTANT:   THE OVERNIGHT KAYAKING IS A STRENUOUS OVERNIGHT TRIP WHERE YOU SHOULD EXPECT TO BE PADDLING FOR 5 HOURS PER DAY, AND BE CAMPING WITH MINIMAL FACILITIES  IN THE NATIONAL PARK.
AN ALTERNATIVE OVERNIGHT CRUISE IS ALSO AVAILABLE
WHICH INCLUDES A SMALL AMOUNT OF PADDLING, DETAILS OF THIS OPTION ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.

What an experience - and how well organized! Kayaking on Doubtful Sound WAS the highlight of the holiday. What a wonderful time we had! Camping in the rainforest, kayaking in the moonlight, sailing through the waves. Our guide (Ben) made it an unforgettable trip. True professionalism and a brilliant sense of humour together with all the stories, tales and information about the environment, wildlife etc. were the icing on the cake for this great adventure. Keep it up! We loved it! And we can recommend it to anybody.
