| Rob
Roy glacier hike
Considered by many (including Adventure Junkies) to be the most scenic one day hike in all of
New Zealand's South Island. In just a few hours the track will take you through lowland flats
along the Rob Roy Stream and into beech forest with a rich under story of mosses
and ferns. As you get higher you'll emerge out of the trees and into the alpine
zone, characterised by low tussock vegetation. Impressive overhead hanging glaciers
beneath Mount Rob Roy is the highlight of the walk as are the numerous Keas (the
only alpine and smartest parrot in the world) flying over head. Total
track length: 11.5 km. Duration:
7 hours return trip from Wanaka. -
